The Last Dance Documentary. Wide Reading

Brief plot overview what are the main points. what would you tell someone when explaining it to them.

The last dance is a documentary series about the last season in the Bulls dynasty. It of course focus’s and betrays Michel Jordan and the deserved main character. It tells stories of heart ace good times bad times and all the unknown facts of being a 1998 NBA superstar. It sheds light on star players upbringings and finest and not finest moments. But overall tells a moving story that will make it hard to hit the off button from episode 1-10.

Characters you found interesting did you feel a certain connection to a certain character.

Obviously Michel Jordan was great to learn about and all the characters in this story for that matter. But I personally found that Scootie Pippen had a very interesting story. Arguably the 2nd best player in history was always stuck in Michel Jordan’s shadow. He spent most of his prime very underpaid and rightfully unhappy about it. He is a clutch moment in a season where he was the leader and where Michel Jordan wasn’t present he kooked it. He gave up on his team and sat on the bench and watched his teammate hit the game-winning shot play that he wasn’t apart of. His teammates explained that it didn’t feel like a win because their star player had given up on them in the dying moments of the game. Pippen later explains he was mad as when Michel was the star he always got to take the game-winning shot. No matter what everyone knew the ball was going to him. But when Pippen was the star he didn’t get to take this shot it was nominated that another teammate would take the shot and for whatever reason, this did not sit well with Pippen, and it ended up becoming a moment that will forever leave a slight stain on his legacy. I can feel a connection to this in a sense as in the suffocating moments of sports you want to be there you want to be apart of the fight. But being left out of the play should never be a reason to outright quit.

Messages you took from the text did a certain message really stand out to you

That determination is everything. In Michel Jordan’s career there if there was any moment somebody gave him a challenge he took it. And no matter who or what got in the way he was determined to conquer that. Jordan told stories of moments where he would make up stuff in his own head about other players talking trash to him. He would even tell these made up stories to the media and make his determination public and once he got into that mode IT WAS OVER. No one could beat Jordan in that mode and that’s was made Jordan so great ” he was the only payer with an on-off switch and he never turned off”.

Challenges the characters had to deal with how did they deal with this challenge

Jordan’s father was murdered by 2 young teens emits his career. On the 23 of July 1993, Michel Jordan’s life changed forever. That year he completed his first 3 peat with the Bulls dynasty and became a true legend. That next year at the peak of Michels career he walked out on basketball. He carried on his father’s dream of playing baseball and was signed by the Chicago White Sox AA minor team the Birmingham Barons. He of course famously came back to basketball wearing the number 45 but this did not stick. One game later switching back to 23 to carry on his legacy as the best basketball player of all time. He also found a father figure in his security guard, Gus. Gus had been by his side for nearly all of his professional career and was a rock. Even being older and a lot less physically capable than Micheil when Gus was by his side he felt safe, and that’s all that mattered to him.

Title does the title suit the text and if so how

This title shows a big part of the movie. Jerry Crouse is riping apart the greatest NBA team to play the game. No one likes the man even if they try. There is no motovation, the legacy is over and this last season is just for the fun of it. Then the miricale worker that he is Phil Jackon Bulls head coach (1989-1998) came up with a plan. Every year he would come up with a new name for that season. He would give it a name and that would be the motovation for that year. So he told they team they were gonna go out with a bang that last year was not the end but this year was. They are gonna play their best and show the NBA how its done. Season name: The Last Dance.

Who would you recommend the text to why and what did you learn from it

I would recommend it to anyone who has a slight interest in basketball. I would rarely if ever watch a game on the Tv but this film was just astonishing. It’s factual it shows amazing never seen before pieces of photo and video that will be famous for many years to come. overall highly recommend even if your not in to basketball if feel like you could enjoy it.

Did you like or dislike this text

Every time an episode came out I was watching it straight when I got the chance. It roped me in and kept me on my toes until the very last episode. I didn’t like this movie I loved it.

Writer-director did they use devices that helped you in this text

The writer and director gave off lots of facts and shared in detail many interesting storys. But if their was one thing I disliked about this flim is the sudden swiches from year to to year and this would sometimes make you become a little bit confused and lost.

Hi Jacob

-Not Achieved for this entry.
This is again some great material to work with and I can see where your thoughts turned onto the right track. However, to go further you need to avoid plot summary and delve into the deeper messages in the text. You make short starts on this in places but not with enough consistency. For example when you wrote the paragraph about the challenge of Michael losing his father, you could have connected this to the importance for many of having a solid parent or mentor in their life to support their dreams. How it affects those who have lost a parent or the importance of how those who mentor us can drive our motivation. For next time remember to always be thinking, ‘how does this make me feel?’ and ‘how can I show that I have understood the message/lesson/etc?’
