Critical paragraph: Rocket launch

Intense non-diegetic music starts to fill in the sound of the room. Shots underneath the rocket ominous-looking giving off a very scary intense vibe. Non-diegetic radio transmissions mission control coming in every few seconds including the start of the count down “t minus 15 seconds”. Close up of filming the people watching the launch nervous excited scared faces all around many little and big cameras technology of its time. Distance shot of the rocket show size and scale tall almost pencil-like from the distance. Shot of control room shows size and scale of operation so many staff all with essential jobs all a part of the launch. Shows rocket but with a fuzz of a heatwave effect across the screen close up shot of the middle section heatwave implying the heat of the moment. The non-diegetic heartbeat gets louder and louder intensifies. Flicking between shots showing crowds, cameras, control room. All attention to the rocket. All eyes on even people in the control room are looking at the rocket and not their computers as the launch starts. They cut the music a very heavy loud non-diegetic heartbeat pounding so loud you could nearly feel it.

Then…

BAM Slow-mo huge explosion lunch insane cole ups of the fire coming out also wider shots of fire shooting out the sides of the bottom of the rocket for miles. The sound of the explosion is turned right up nearly ear piercing. Close up of the rocket detaching the ground on the start of its rise through the atmosphere. Crowds cheering with joy even though 1000’s of miles away. Rocket soaring into the sky, shots of a cameraman filming close up. People’s reactions vary, they look awe-inspired, anxious and some overjoyed with wonder. Music re-enters still intense but fizzling out. But then the music gets more upbeat but intense still. Shows close up from within the rocket of the sections detaching flicking between shots of this and the people focusing in the control room igniting this detach sequence. Loud detaching noises. switching shots from rocket view of earth to everyone working in mission control. No music just fuzzies noises from the mission control as the scene ends.

In the documentary ” Apollo 11 “ director Todd Millar uses a variety of cinematography and sound techniques to build up anticipation, suspence and to draw us into the experince. In the moments of the final countdown the audiance is showen camera shots of the control room, the VIP’s on the veiwing platform and the public to show the audience the true abundance of the luanch.
