Joe is scared they might not be able to climb the thin ridgline, he is scared beacuse failing could resualt in serious indury or mostlikely death. He compares the rigline to being razor edged we know a razor edge is very shap and thin and would seem nearly impossible to to climb along. The word razor is a word you would use to show how somthing that could cut you or hurt you like, the knife was razor sharp or the rose thorns were razor sharp. So when he uses this metofore hes kind of doing it to show how imtimidating and scary this ridge was and to try to make you feel fear for him, by useing a humanly comparison to someup to you how dangerous and scary the situation is.
